My motor and transmission are currently out of the car and i have the engine bay stripped down besides some lines. I’m looking to start prep for paint on the engine bay and parts of the underside of the front of the car.

For the engine bay what are best options for prep in terms of removing some surface rust and creating a paintable surface. Sandpaper, wire wheels, etc.? Then what paints recommended for the engine bay? Primer? What paint/coating would be recommended for the underside too?

Two choices really...

Sand blast or sand with a powered sander and by hand. I would use a two part epoxy primer under the paint of your choice. I used single stage in the engine bay but color/cleared the rest of the car. Raptor bedliner is the best to replace the undercoating...

I used some surface filler to fill the wrinkles seen in almost all MGB engine compartments.
