MGEXP Enthusiasts,

Vehicle is 1973 MG Midget Mk lll.

I have a leaking(petrol) braided hose that is connected to the round metal emissions canister located in the right upper side of the trunk. See photos.
The braided hose runs from the top of the canister to a screw on vent connection at the fuel tank. It is in not connected to the fuel pump. A metal line runs from the metal canister forward to the plastic evaporative canister in the engine compartment.

Do you know of a vendor that sells this braided hose with screw on ends? It is not listed in the Moss catalog.

Maybe a hydraulic hose shop can make one up if this is an unobtanium part?

Thanks for your suggestions and help.

Alex

Al, I went though this with my MGB, it seems the hoses are now almost unobtainable unless you can find some good used ones someplace.
You are luckily because
you have the hoses so you can cut off the crimps and use the fittings and 1/4 fuel hose to make new hoses. I had to drill out the tank fittings and tap them to 1/8 27 NPT and used 1/8 27 male 1/4 hose barb fittings and made the hoses that way. Advance Auto Parts had the fittings clamps and fuel hose.

Thanks William. I am thinking about cutting the crimps and installing a fuel hose. There should is enough room on the fittings to install some type of hose clamp.

That will work just fine. The original hoses are just fuel hose with a braid for protection.

x2

cut off the old hose and reuse the original fittings, which have barbed nipples underneath for gripping to the hose, some new 1/4" fuel vapor hose and some hose clamps

I used BSPP to AN6 adapters on the canister and the rest was off the shelf AN6 hose and fittings from Amazon (the cheaper Evil Energy brand). I wound up replacing the trunk floor bulkhead fitting with a 90 degree AN6 bulkhead fitting and underneath ran braided hose over the axle to the hard line that goes forward to the charcoal canister.
I forget where I got the BSPP adapters. McMaster Carr I think. EDIT: yes, McMaster item 1774N11

I took my old leaky hoses to a shop that makes hydraulic hoses for heavy equipment. They reused the original connectors and assembled the hoses with high quality hose material. The rubber under the original metal braid had completely disintegrated. I have had the same shop prepare a proper oil pressure hose (engine>chassis) for the MGB as well as A/C hoses for B. Usually they will do this while one waits.
