Ok. Hear me out. Stop laughing already…
Current project is a 74 Midget restomod. Using a bugeye bonnet, go fast goodies under the hood et al. Not putting a top on, just tonneau.
I am currently researching if I can put a Bugeye windshield (early or late) on my Midget. Seems no one has asked this question on Planet Google…that I can find anyway. I think I have found that the doors physically will not fit (which was another possibility I was going to venture into). But, will the BE glass physically fit on my car? If so, will my door wing glass fit with it? Presumably no.
I need glass anyway, so was beginning to take this side road Im currently on.
Hell, if the glass and frame fits but not the wing glass, I would just gut my current doors. However, I do like the idea of roll up windows, which is one of the reasons I started with this vs a BE. That and the trunk. A deal breaker for me.
And if my dreams here are completely shattered, what year windshields will bolt up to a 74? (Anyone have a good donor in central FL?!).
Thanks gents.
Troy

Hi Troy,

A Bugeye windshield could certainly be fitted to a '74 Midget. A '74 Midget is a Bugeye with different fenders and badges. But the door windows on your car won't come close to fitting the Bugeye windshield. The doors are even interchangable if you redo the latch mechanism. But the simplest solution for you is to find a windshield for a car with wind up door windows. smiling smiley

Interesting. So certain years had a BE style windshield AND roll up windows? Did not know this. Honestly I do not know much about old British cars! Ha!
Thx,
Troy

Thats what I thought. I guess you are suggesting I let my dreams crumble and just go replace my 74 ws with another!
Thanks again,
Troy

Troy,

I would think that MKIII glass/frame are much easier to find that Bugeye/MKI midget. But good luck.

Dave

Look up DJ Minis in Wesley Chapel, FL, not too far from you. Dion's is a great guy and his father is into Sprites and Midgets and has several around. If it can be done he can help.

Troy: I have four post-1964 Midget windshields in Chapel Hill, TN -- available for local pick up if needed. I always thought the earliest Sprites and Midgets (prior to the roll-up window cars) had a different "scuttle" or cowl. More defined upward curve and the windshield frame attached with three external screws on each side of a cast triangular upright. This would fall about where the later Midget door opens.

These pics were taken over ,20 years ago. I never found the owner but chased the bonnet down several years later. I do not know what happened to the car. My friends sprite in shot.
Note large wheel wells on square body, bugeye doors and windscreen, only 2 wipers.
I don't know if 73 rear was spliced with 63 front at the rear of door or what.
I only have the bonnet.

Boy, that is an interesting contraption!
I got a chance to take a look at a bugeye in person last weekend and I think this is a bit of a pipe dream. I think I will just use the bugeye bonnet with my 94 body et al.
Thanks gents.
And @David, I will keep you posted if I can’t find one local.
Thanks,
Troy

A very interesting mix:

Looks like a Mk3 Midget RWA, the row of fasteners on the back of the soft top are a give away to the late cockpit surround. It does not have the pack away soft top of an early car

The windscreen, side curtains and soft top have been fitted/modified to make it look like an early car.

It has a Dama Plastics bonnet.
