Is there a way to identify an O. E. M. aluminum bonnet?

I have one but don’t want to try to fit it if it won’t work. It looks old and well worn with hing mounts, prop holder and latch all intact. Thanks for any info.

Not really that I know of. Is there a reason it matters?

If it is an aluminum bonnet for the MGC it is OEM. Even the later OEM bonnets were pressed in steel.

Then there was the short run of new Heritage bonnets in the 1990's. May have been only 200 of those.

Never heard of any reproductions of any kind, but fiberglass.

On close inspection I can verify if the bonnet is original to the car in most cases, but if it is off of the original car there is no way to tell.

Thanks Mark.

I have one but won't be using it. I rescued a 68 CGT from the weather and will be leaving the steel hood on it. Maybe the aluminum will make good trading stock.

Yes a good MGC bonnet (alloy or steel) is good trading stock. No one is making new ones.
Personally I like the later steel bonnets since they are more robust and user friendly but they do add about 10 more pounds of weight.
