Last year I pulled the motor & replaced the clutch. I’ve not driven it a lot, drove her today on this sunny warm day! Suddenly I felt the clutch slip when changing gears, twice.
After a 40 minute ride I returned home, it didn’t seem to slip then but I hear a squeal when the clutch is engaged ( like a squeaking fan). It stops as soon as I release the clutch.
I know it sounds like oil leaked on the clutch and maybe burned off? But the squeak is new.
I’m pretty disappointed knowing I have to do it all again & im having shoulder surgery in 2 weeks.
Just looking for advice.

Thanks!

Did you change the rear main seal at the time? A lot of oil on the back of that engine. SpeediSleeve would be highly recommended as well.

I was addicted to the hokey pokey but I turned myself around.

I should have replaced the main seal & of course the throughout bearing. I think the throughout came loose .
I don’t see any oil beneath it today.
Oh well I guess it doesn’t matter now. It’ has to come out again anyway.
I just replaced a motor & clutch in my 53 Chevy truck, so I’m tired!
Thanks for your input.
Guess I’ll cancel it’s insurance for a while & save some money!

One time I did an engine swap on my B and I cleaned the flywheel before I put the clutch back together. That was a mistake. The clutch has to "bed" itself into the flywheel just like brakes. The clutch slipped for a short time but then it was fine. If it were me, I would drive it hard for a while to see if it corrects itself. What have you got to lose?

New engine seal and new transmission front seal.
If you pull the engine out, have a machine shop rectify the flywheel.
True that sometimes The clutch disc , if new takes some use before it settles against the flywheel and pressure plate.
If it was oil leak, it will be obvious when you disassemble.
The noise could come from the throw-out bearing or very dry transmission shaft .

You don't need to grease the release bearing surface. I put a little grease on the splines of the first motion shaft where the clutch rides and the bearing retaining clips. But missing grease won't cause your issue.

Your problem with the (now) squeaking and the momentary slip might happen if a chunk of carbon broke off the bearing and got stuck between the bearing and pressure plate. It could have all broken away and now you're left with just the mounting ring. If it starts making more nasty noise when you actuate the clutch, then it becomes more likely the carbon came apart. You may be able to remove the boot on the transmission and sneak a scope through the hole to see if the release bearing is still in one piece.

I don't know if this is true, but I'd imagine even if you had a big rear main leak, it would be running down the back of the flywheel on the opposite side of the clutch and pressure plate. The oil then gets flung all over the bell housing and eventually drains out the hole where the cotter pin lives. I don't think you would get enough through to the friction surfaces.

Did you change the bushing and associated bolt on the clutch fork?moss 330-200 190-550 These typically produce a squeal with the cluth pedal down.
