This green MGB was listed on Bring a Trailer yesterday, and is already bid to over $5,000. It looks OK, not a great example of MGB, but not a dog either.

It looks to be riding quite high. I posted this comment:

"I think the rear springs may have been for an MGB GT. The car does sit rather high, and in the front as well. Not a deal killer, but it makes the car look kinda strange. I bought an MGB a year ago that had the opposite problem; it sat low and looked odd to my eyes. Even amateur mechanics like myself can do these kinds of repairs on MGBs."

The owner disagreed, said if it's high at all, it's due to oversize tires. Oversize tires would have the opposite visual effect, wouldn't they?

Doesn't look terible to me. Maybe it has completely new springs on the front.

It looks about like mine which has new springs in the front and old in the back. The aesthetic for cars to be lower is a relatively modern one.

I did use the GT springs when rebuilding the rear suspension. Yes, it looks a bit higher, but getting in and out requires all the help I can get.

In other photos of the car, the car doesn’t appear to be high in the front so maybe it was the camera distorting the image.

Seller said tires are 185 75. Way too big for those rims and quite tall in themselves.

The replaced floor panels look bonded vs welded?

The first thing I noticed is the rear bumper overriders are from a later Mk II.

Nice early roadster!!
From the photos, Has original floor pans with drain scuppers, the toe board bolts for optional foot rests, the original rocker panels with the factory access holes aft of the A pillars, the previously noted vertical vs lateral bonnet prop rod clip, the silver bezel trim around the main gauges, and a grommet on the bulkhead for the tach and speedo cables, which doesn’t look like an aftermarket addition a rarely seen item!!

I estimate the date of production as mid-February 1963, based on my heritage certificate for my car #77XX. This car's a gem!

The very few items that could be restored or fixed up are not difficult nor expensive IMO.

Sold for $16,750. Does that seem like the fair market price for this car?

In reply to # 4790680 by miatadon Sold for $16,750. Does that seem like the fair market price for this car?

I’d say it’s a fair price considering that the car is a rare example of an early pull handle with some minor items that could be taken care of by the buyer, if they had a desire and interest to bring the car to a higher level of appearance.

With some minor work and changes such as the blue hood, maybe more appropriate tires & wheels (wire), a BH Trust certificate, I could easily see the car getting a price at or above $20,000.

IMO if the car had its original motor instead of the Gold exchange engine, it could have gone for more! But still not bad for what it is!! Congrats to the seller and buyer!

I would expect to see a steel fuel line, (not rubber) from pump to engine.
