Hello All-

I am currently looking at a 1967 MGB GT , GHD3L/121924,
that was discovered when I was looking at another B Roadster for a friend.

Is there a way to date the production window on this car without a BMH Certificate ?

California car & California plate, last registered 2007.

Sitting up on jack stands covered for the last 6-7 years.

Intriguing, but I'm kinda busy with a Pull Handle.......

Sam, does it have reverse lights? If so, it is post April 67.

Have fun

Harry -

No reverse lights.
I am trying to use the Clausager book to check for the production changes, to see if I could determine or narrow approx. build date.

I have no business even looking at the car and yet I am......

Hi Sam...
My 67 BGT is #GHD3L/120634. Per the letter from Anders Clausager (BMI Heritage Trust), mine was built March 1, 1967 and shipped March 31.
There is a bit of a window for you. smiling smiley.

Thanks so much !
I was hoping someone would chime in on their BGT either before or after.

That gives me a ballpark my car is 1290 units later , which probably puts its build date in April/May '67.

How many units were produced a week at that time ? 150-200 ? Be interesting to know.......

You're right it would be interesting to know. If the backup lights were added in april they must have had a bunch in the pipeline!

Sam,

Searching the registry GHD3122077 is a RHD GT without reverse lights that is registered with Otto Uldum (Otto in Denmark).

He has recorded the build date in the vehicle information as 17/4/67.

I'm sure that the chassis numbers never were in an exact sequence with respect to build dates, particularly RHD v LHD versions!

Tony -

Thanks for this additional info !

We now have BGT VIN numbers on both sides of GHD3L/121924 , I'm guessing they were not exactly sequential, as you say,
but, we can be fairly certain that the build took place in March or early April 1967.

Thanks to all for the help on this !

You don't have to order a complete certificate to get bits of information from bmht, unless they have changed the policy. I was able to obtain just the engine number by providing the car no. At the time it was just £5. It was probably 15 or so years ago. Send them an email to see what they offer if you want documented information.

A little more that 10,000 MGBs were built in 1973. That implies a bit fewer than 200 per month week were made. Since 1972 had higher production and 1974 had lower production. I would assume that early in 1973, weekly production was a bit higher than later. Using the data points mentioned earlier, I would guess that your car was built between late in the week of Apr 2nd to early week of Apr 9th.

Chuck -

Thank you for that very cogent & interesting extrapolation of the production numbers on the cars.

I am going to go view the car again, before deciding on it.
