I'm asking for my wife because, well, I'm the guy doing the work...
I'm tearing down the car in preparation for paint and noticed that the rear leaf springs have begun to "splay out"; the leaves are not all in line with each other. That's how I noticed that the "Leaf Clips" MG's terminology, are completely missing! I have already spent WAY too much working to restore a car that won't be worth what I put into it (My first MG after 3 Triumphs.) but need to get this done correctly.

Hello Danielle,
I had the same thing on my TF but only on the left-hand side.
These are new Moss blades.
I added a vertical blade on the inside. Since then, the horizontal blades have not moved.
Best regards, Thierry SUCHIER

Gary,
In that case, how do you fix the Leaf Clips?
On the old blades, they are riveted to the bottom blade.
Is it possible to do this?
Best regards Thierry

I have several sets of used springs. I would just sell the single leaf with the brackets on it. I'm a retired aircraft Mechanic with many years of riveting. I have replaced them in some MMM cars. You only need a rivet gun and a bucking bar,

Thanks Gary,

For the cut-off bar (the rivet), is it soft iron, not steel?
What diameter do you need, please?

Sincerely, Thierry from Ardèche, South of France

Here is a photo of an early style one. It is .150" thick and .750 wide. It could be made from mild steel flat stock. The later ones do not have the two raised area. Just a straight bottom. Any mild steel rivet would work. A steel carriage bolt and tube also is needed. When fabricating leave room for the two rubber bushings.
Hope this helps.

Gary
