Noticed my gas gauge light was not working, when pulled light, thinking it was the light bulb, found the red/white wire had come out of the housing. Is there a way to re-attach the wire into the plastic housing.

I can't answer for an 80 B, but others I have worked on have a fibre disk, with something like a hollow rivet in it. The wire is soldered to this rivet and the globe engages it, when installed.

Correct, but can't figure out how to get rivit out of metal housing and where the red wire goes into a plastic sleeve. How to solder and not melt plastic. I'll send pic.

can you get at it with a thin solder iron from the bulb side? poke a tinned red wire thru at a bit of solder to iron and hope for a miracle?

It should be relatively easy to source a new bulb holder and solder the two wires together.

Hi Ray, the simplest things always seem to be the most complex don't they? (boy does that sound like Yogi Berra) Anyway, I can not speak from actual experience but it would seem to me that if you removed the bulb from the socket, there should be a fiber insulating washer with a hollow rivet underneath the bulb. With the bulb out, you should be able to press out the washer and rivet from the back being careful of the amount of force you use. With the pieces out of the socket, insert the power lead back into the sleeve on the rear of the socket and solder the wire back onto the rivet contact (don't forget to slide the fiber washer over the wire first) and afar the solder has cooled, reassemble the socket and you should be good to go.

x2 on take the bulb out. The base that the wire connects to then should fall out, or push it out from behind. IIRC, it's not connected in any way to the socket. Feed the wire back in, extend it well past the socket, solder the base back on, then insert back into socket.

I have successfully used the small button terminals from inline glass fuseholders to rehabilitate the original bulbholders.

These fuseholders - typically sourced from the UK - come with the terminals without wires.

Thanks for. The suggestions. With a little umph, was able to push brass piece thru. Replaced and reconnected. Worked great. Thanks.
