The car came partially redone with some questionable repairs so decided to have a closer look. Just started dismantling and it seems pretty solid, so far, Fenders and doors off. The front splash plates came loose in a box but cannot see how they were attached. There is a small plate with two small holes near the wheel arch of the body but no other attachment points. This area had been replaced previously. I am assuming that there should be nuts to attach to here and something to attach the bottom of the splash plate. I also cannot find any info of attaching the rear splash plates at their bottom to the fenders. I've been on MGA Guru and didn't find anything there. The Moss book shows a bolt but no clip or anything to go to.
thanks for any help

the holes in the front inner splash guards mate up with caged nuts in the inner fender well

thanks for the swift response. The previous work done obviously left out the caged nuts. Also how is the bottom attached? There are two holes there and I'm guessing they should attach to a bracket of some kind. Is there the same sort of clip at the bottom of the rear splash guards?
Thanks

Splash panels do not bolt to the fender. They bolt to the main body shell. 2 nuts in the little bracket that you have identified and 4 more captive nuts along the rear radius of the inner fender. There is a 7th hole which, I believe, may have been used to hang the panels during paint. There is a rubber seal that rests along the outer fender. Hope this helps.

I believe that the early MGAs where missing the front shields that are on the dog legs just behind the rocker panels. Right or Wrong??

John, Right! The addition of the front splash guards on the rear fenders occurred in mid 1956.

I added some info to Bob's photo to clarify one of the mounting points.

Mitchell,
I have an extra set of rear splash panels that are in pretty good condition that I'll sell if you still need them.

Thanks Jim,

One of our club members has a set from a parts car he scavenged a few years ago.
