...at 66 it is the first time I have ever seen lake michigan frozen out as far as the eye can see....it was positively eerie...we stood a hill and as the sun shown, and it was sparkles and shimmers off the ice... we are at the cottage but will post photos when we get home if they came out well....

Here's yesterday's sat shot. Pretty amazing to see the lakes this ice covered. It should make for high water levels this year as there is not much evaporation going on this winter.

That's right. There is no global warming because there is ice in my backyard up here in Canada.

But when the ice melts.....it will be .............HEADLINES.....in support of you know what!!!!!
No, when it disappears entirely, as the vast majority of the worlds glaciers are doing.
From a well known, but apparently unreliable, scientific source.

PS If I lived as close to a flood plain as you do, I would be hoping they got the data wrong as well,

The Lake Superior Ice caves opened up again this year along the Wisconsin shoreline. I was at my place up north and planned on visiting today, however I had to come back early. I was up there last year and it was amazing!

73 MGB. Tires: Round, black, hold air. Oil: Sometimes old, sometimes new...always slippery. Oil filter: Yellow, usually full of oil. Carbs: 2 SU HIF. Distributor: Yes. Headlights: Not that bright but bright enough. A bunch of other stuff most cars have but not really important enough to itemize. Oh, wait...it has a cool sounding exhaust with stickers on the chrome tips. Really slays the ladies...

Hey...I got the "spirit" of the message. Although winters here are brutal sometimes(Marquette just recorded the coldest average Feb in history up there), there can be beauty in the beast at times.
Arguing climate change, global warming...whatever...is pointless anyhow. Along with religion and politics(I suppose it's a little of both), no matter what it's a "no-win" situation regardless of how many charts, graphs, pics, papers and "proofs" you drag out. That topic is usually drawn out by people who simply like to argue for arguments sake.

Well I still want to see the pics. Question: About how thick does ice have to be before you can safely walk on it? Apart from actually walking on it is there a way to tell that it is safe?
I would imagine the ramifications of breaking though - despite Hollywood, can be life threatening.
