I'm using a cold air intake on my conversion, the type you see advertised on Ebay. I've noticed in photos that a few of you seem to be using them.
My problem, which doesn't affect performance in any way, is that under acceleration starting at around 1200rpm I get a loud whistle which goes away once the revs get to about 1500rpm or I lift off. It seems to be coming from the front driver's side which coincidently where the conical air filter is located (see photo). It really gets to
be quite annoying on a twisty road when staying in that rev band.

I've checked all of the usual suspects, vacuum leaks, exhaust leaks, air leaks on the connections to the throttle body, aluminum ducting etc. all claps are nice and tight, no splits, punctures or open seams etc. Could it even be the filter itself, its the open type at the front and I notice that other brands are close off there. Have any of you experienced the same thing and if so how did you eliminate ?.

Could it be belt squeal? I get that from your same alternator setup?

If you open the hood and rev it by hand on the throttlebody does it help localize it?

It is the air going by the throttle plate. You get used to it after a while. What you won't get used to is the belt squeak that happens for the first 5 minutes of running the engine, after driving your first 500 miles. angry smiley hot smiley

Is that a certainty for everyone that does this conversion or just your experience?

I have heard of a few others who have had the issue. I put a pulley in the system on the driver's side of the water pump where that hole is for a bolt to provide more surface area on the water pump pulley. However, it is still squeaking. I need to check my alignment of the pulley in the system - hopefully that is it. I live at the bottom of a driveway with neighbors above, so it is a shameful drive every morning.
