I noticed yesterday afternoon when I got into my car, that I was seeing a new little bit of tearing or separation in the driver's seat. We have an excellent upholsterer here in town, but i thought i would put this out there with a picture or two to see if anyone had thoughts on this.

There are repair kits out here some better than others. The rip is in a difficult area brecause it is near the seam. With a good adhesive and a backing cloth, it is possible to repair so try it by gluing the underside of your ripped area and the cloth on the top side when it is in the rip. the cloth should be large enough to span the rip by at least 3/8" all around. let the glue (contact cement) dry then press together. Then with the matching color repair compound fill in the small crease, put the graining paper on the seam and heat with the small iron that comes in the kit. keep moving it around the area until the paper releases from the compound. It should be good to go. The kit costs about $10 to $15. and has a variety colors, graining paper, small iron, pattch material and adhesive in the kit.
If because of the rip so close to the seam it may not hold because by sitting or pressure on the seam, then you may need to have an upholsterer cut out the whole section and replace it with new vinyl section. More expensive.
Good luck and show photos when you are done

Thanks Vince
Are these repair kits available at most auto parts stores? Or, if not, where else could I find them?

Jim, I have a Ochre colored set of seats from a 72-73 if that would be of any help. One could produce a good bottom that could be stretched over your existing bottom foam. I'm pretty close to you….

Assuming the color on my computer monitor is correct it looks like you have Ochre seats.

I used a product named "VIP" to repair a couple 3-corner tares on my TR6 top. I made the repair about 8 years ago. Still looks like the day it was done.

David, you are correct. It is the ocher color. I appreciate your offer. I will keep that in mind. I think I'd like to try to find one of those kits and see if I can repair it that way first. I have not had a chance to go to any auto parts stores yet and see if they're available here.
Thanks, Jim
