Thanks, Kelvin. I had managed to forget how ugly those Range Rover wheels are.

A little background. I've been attending a Mad Max themes Post Apocalyptic event here in California for the past few years in my camouflage 1991 Range Rover. For the event it gets fitted with a pair of mini guns and a rocket launcher amongst other things. If this perks your interest, I'd suggest watching: Which is a really good overview of the event.
After Thunder Road came out, I wanted to combine my love for MGs with my enjoyment of the event and build some kind of homage vehicle. This after discovering that the wheelbase of my somewhat restored 1958 Magnette was the same as my 1991 Range Rover (100"winking smiley. I thought this couldn't be a coincidence.
A friend of mine had bought a scrapped Magnette from a junk yard and had stripped it of all the bits he wanted. This combined with a very cheap 1989 Range Rover with a bad engine seemed to be a match made in hell.
Even though it seems anything with a VIN plate still attached will get restored in the UK, over here this car is not a viable restoration candidate as the wood and interior trim are gone, the right hand door fell off and the left rear B post is bent.
I will be doing a lot of patching, but it will be artistic rather than structural restoration, since the Rover floor pan will be used to maintain integrity.

This past weekend, I got a chance to do a bit more work. Please note I'm careful to salvage all useful Magnette components. The fuel tank, wheels and other items have new homes with other restorers. The 18V motor will be refreshed and installed in a basket case MGA and all other parts including suspension and brakes will be salvaged.

That's why I picked up a set of widened Series Land Rover wheels. Image 1

"And your next batch of excuses will be...?"

This from the owner of three, count them three UNIMOG SEE tractors!! smileys with beer

The other night, my wife joined me in my madness. Checking the wheel centering and required tire clearance. A lugnut tied to a piece of string makes a dandy plumb bob. Still have to trim the firewall, but the wheels are within 3/4" of center. The radiator looks like it will fit easily behind the hood and fenders.

Kelvin, I need to look long and hard at those Land Rover wheels...to forget image in my mind of those "3-spokes".

But speaking of excuses, I have a good one. Proud owner of two, count them two SEEs.
Of course, then there's the HMMH which is similar.

The latter's crane will come in handy when you stop by, and we need to lift the body off of your contraption for much needed repairs.

If the repairs fail (did I write "if"?), I can dig a suitable grave for that thing of yours really quickly-like with one of the SEEs.

(Of course, I'll cover it only lightly so that I can retrieve the 215 once you've left)

Update.

Trimmed the rear frame of the Rover a bit so the tail of the Magnette will tuck over it. In this image the shell is still hiting the rear frame, so its still about 1.5" high.

Yowza! Those fancy wheel dollies must be worth more than the car.
