Rich.
The breather supplied by Moss is an accurate reproduction of the original. Always has been, always will.
When the breather breaks off, it leaves part of the tube in the axle. You need to use an "eezi out" to remove this part of the tube.
Then the Moss breather will fit.

Kelvin, I ordered Moss #267-040 (2)of them ,and yes they will screw into the axle ,however they are not exact reproductions. I have a 1972 B (original owner) and the one that I broke is half the size of Moss. (in height and diameter) the thread size is accurate. Rich

Thank you Rich. I stand corrected. I run into the not fitting issue time and again, it has been a while since I looked at stock. The ones we have are supplied by British Motor Heritage, but they are to a later design than originally fitted. They are taller and with a black cap, rather than being all white.

Kelvin, any ideas where I can purchase one like my original, Thank you, Rich
Nope.
I just happen to have a pile of used axle assemblies littering my front garden, so pulled an MGA steel version and an MGB plastic to create a "Product Definition Document" which shows the changes and where applicable factory supersession chain.
I know the MGA steel breather - 1G3668 was superseded by the later plastic 1H3364 MGB one back in BMC times. The TR7/8 Salisbury axles were fitted with part number DAM1695 and it appears when Rover took over as Rover/MG the 1H3364 and DAM1695 were both superseded to the new part number 21H6060, which is what is being currently supplied by BMH.
The images below shows the MGA, MGB and current 21H6060 versions of the breather. Physically, the current 22H6060 is very similar to the DAM1695 with an increased reservoir area and larger vent cap, but smaller orifice. This design may have been introduced to reduce leakage, which the earlier versions were prone to.
edit: I went ahead and made a copy of this post on the Originality List.
