I'm trying to find a good way to improve the appearance of the Personal steering wheel on my MGB. The wheel is great. The horn push is a cheap, plastic piece. My first thought was to try to modify an early MGB push, but they're too big, After some research I found that the push on the '62-'63 Midget is about 61mm in diameter - which would be perfect....if I can modify the back so it'll fit in the 54mm hole in my hub (I don't need the horn function - it's on the column stalk on a '78 MGB).

I've looked online to try to find a pic on the back of the assembly to determine if it's feasible to modify, but can't find any. Does anyone have one available to show me a pic of the back and/or give me the approximate dimensions?

Anyone have an old, crappy one you'd sell cheap so I could see if it is doable before I spend $50+ getting a new one from the UK and possible wreck it in the process? Anyone have a good one to sell?

Here's a photo of my steering wheel, and of the part I'm hoping to use...

You could just enlarge the hole in the steering wheel, it looks like there is plenty of material that can be removed.

Enlarging the hole in the wheel wouldn't accomplish anything. The recess in the hub it's bolted to is only 54mm wide.

Thanks for the offer Dave, but I already ordered a new one from LBCarCo...

I'll make it work!! grinning smiley

Hey Dave. I have an original steering wheel for my '61 coming from a friend out east. I was going to buy a new horn push when it arrived. If the one you have is original to my '61 I'd rather get it from you. can you confirm it is OEM to '61 and provide a pic? Best, Chuck.

In case anyone else might consider adapting that early horn push to an aftermarket wheel, I posted pics of the front, back and side views of the Midget part along with my original part on the thread on the MGB forum....as well as the dimensions of both parts. I'm REALLY happy with the new look!!

Here's a link to that thread...
