Yes, but it's unlikely to be the fault of your problems. I'd check the ignition switch, and the surrounding wiring, looking for an interruption in the current. RAY

First, bring up this file:

http://www.advanceautowire.com/mgb.pdf

Open the file up to sheet 25, 1978 and later MGB

"All those green wires on the upper right quadrant draw power from the fuse (5) - (6)"

I would start at that fuse, and work your way to finding where the "power" stops.

I have almost the same problem with my car, an '80: the reverse lights for a long time didn't work, but now sometimes do, the brake lights sometimes do, but more often don't, and the fuel gauge always reads empty. I'm pretty sure that the brake/reverse light issue is from the corroded fuse box. I read that many odd electrical problems can be fixed with a replacement fuse box. Our wipers work, though.

Best luck in diagnosing the problem.

The "B"udget: staying solvent with glues and aerosols.

What we found was that if you move a fuse to the edge of the fuse holder it makes contact,But center it and it looses current. So next weekend or soon after i will take it abroad and see if i can get the contacts to tighten up !

Though I've never had electrical problems, I just pulled my fuse box (and some other relays) and gave them a good clean. My concern was using Vaseline on contacts. Much advice that this and dialectic grease is non conductive, and after some Internet searching, found MG Chemicals has "Nu-trol Control cleaner" (found 2 in my home) with lubricating oils (#401B-140G) that my old can says is conductive, but new can doesn't say. I called the company and pointed this out. It's the same formula as before but dumb marketing / labeling omitting the conductive factor now.

Be careful, as they also sell products that are non conductive.

Electronic supply stores carry it. It's Canadian and can only assume it's for sale in USA too.
