Hi there,

In Australia, these Cordless Circuit Testers are available at Jaycar for around $17-00.

Just put the Probe on the Positive & touch the Vehicle Body, Your Body completes the circuit.

The Probe provides a Light & Buzzer if the Circuit is complete.

No scratching around for an Earth.

Ross H.

Never use on AC circuits but picture B shows a 220 round pin connector.

And... You still have to find an earth with your finger - Picture A (which incidentally occupies two hands now instead of one)

And... You have to have batteries

A solution looking for a problem. Looks Like China's finest.

Sorry don't mean to be rude but frankly that thing is not useful...

The goal - Reliable summer driver interspersed with mechanical tinkering...
Motto - "Driving fifty in the twisties..."
On Mods - It's your damn car - Do what you want. Haters gonna hate...
On SUVs - Drive your B like a soccer mom is texting her friends about how she wants to kill you...

To be fair, we don't have round pin 220v connectors here. Household electricity is 240v, with 3 oblong pins, and it says on the cover only suitable up to 28v. If you are dumb enough to stuff it into the wall socket...........eye rolling smiley

yeh ..I don't know about that thing Ross or whether it is worth having it ?...would you have to touch a clean surface without paint ?...I think I am happy to just use my circuit tester with the alligator clip and light probe ...I think it is just another gimmick item that is going to let you down because of a flat battery .

lolololol..yes we are not all idiots over here Rob to be poking them in power outets ...but I can see some idiots trying it on extension leads or connection leads to electronics which can have 2 pin connection ...lolololololol ..and I do not think I would feel too comfortable using it on a late model vehicle with stored energy or making myself the earth irrespective of the voltage range .
Just another item for the shelves of supercheap and autobarn for the un-initiated thinking it is the way to go and for mums thinking , " what else can I add for Bobby's xmas present "...it's not for me ...sorry Ross ....lololololol

Hi there,

I agree it may not be for everybody, however as I said, no scratching around for an Earth.

It's very easy to touch an Unpainted Screw or Bolt.

Mine works on Dirty Bolts & Screws & most Painted Metal Parts on "Miss B".

As with most things in the world today, some people will do "Stupid Things" & "You can't even legislate against STUPIDITY".

Hi there,

Just thought I'd check this item for SAFETY using a 12 Volt Battery.

Current Draw using a piece of wire to complete the circuit, 5 milli
Amps.

Current Draw using myself to complete the circuit, 50 micro Amps.

Draw your own conclusions re the use & SAFETY of this Circuit Tester.

From my own perspective Ross..I doubt the item can do you any harm at all working on these cars..yes I see it as a bit over the top to refer to your local sparky about it …lolololol…....it’s just an In-built instinct not to use yourself as the earth…just bad work practise …as I said , I see it as one of those things that will end up in the junk draw of the tool box and not get used by us sort of people

Neat idea, but the test lamps I've bought usually have at least a 6 ft cord if not longer. I usually just grab one of the valve cover bolts and I've not found anything in the engine that I can't reach.

Aside from that, there are times when I'm tracing a ground, and in that situation I prefer the flexibility of a traditional test light. Setting static timing is a good example of that.

Considering that this uses the body as part of the current path means that it is very very high impedance. It can give all kinds of false indications that would cause more confusion than its worth. A good old light bulb with long leads and a half decent voltmeter are much better.
