Tried a number of things - new fuel, fuel filter, I can hear the 'ticking' of the fuel pump ( so, I assume that works). It ran last weekend (although, I did have to pump the gas pedal a bit). After it started, it ran, & started fine - until yesterday. Any suggestions are welcomed! Thanks!

No use pumping the pedal on an ZS carb,no accelerator pump.
Pull the fuel line and put into suitable container and have someone turn on the key to see if you have fuel flow.
If you have fuel you can rule out fuel issue and need to check for spark.
Take your time, work through the diagnostic tree methodically and you will solve the issue.

Does the engine turn over normally? Slow? After sitting overnight?

You've checked the "fuel" side...what about the air and spark?

73 MGB. Tires: Round, black, hold air. Oil: Sometimes old, sometimes new...always slippery. Oil filter: Yellow, usually full of oil. Carbs: 2 SU HIF. Distributor: Yes. Headlights: Not that bright but bright enough. A bunch of other stuff most cars have but not really important enough to itemize. Oh, wait...it has a cool sounding exhaust with stickers on the chrome tips. Really slays the ladies...

You say it "after it started it ran and started fine"...

How old's the battery?

As Rob said, check for fuel coming out of the hose. Then trace back to the pump. A line may deteriorated or been crimped

After cranking, are the plugs wet or not ? If they are dried well your carb(s) has no choke or needle/float strucked.

1) they are dried:
If you shoot some ether or a bit of gas in the sparkplugs hole, maybe it will be enough to start the car and eventually the heat and the vibration might clear the carb(s).
A good clean up of the carb(s) might be required.

2) they are wet:

Do you have points/condenser ? It might be the time to renew them and check you have some sort of sparks.
Is the voltage at the battery high enough ?

A bit more information would be helpful. If it was cranking slowly I'm guessing battery or alt. Do you have the single carb still? When starting do you smell gas? The single carbs can have various problems that make them run rich. Do not smell gas? Could be fuel line issue or vacuum leaks. Likely in the emissions control tubes. For some reason I don't suspect spark unless related to low battery/alt. Problem.

I believe this is not the original carb - however, it worked well until yesterday

That's a down draft weber. Very important information! Not stock! So is the engine cranking good?

Did you see the picture of my carb? I just posted it & am pretty sure it is not original.

Not original carb.
Check all hoses vacuum leaks, fuel flow to carb, spark to plugs, battery charge should be 12.6V fully charged.
Try some starting ether sprayed into the carb and then try to start after spraying, not during.

Turns over fine - with the new battery & almost 'kicks in' when I spray either in the carb.
