So just for fun I downloaded the shop manual for my daily driver a 2010 Nissan Frontier and wow, all I can say our Midgets are real simple cars compare to modern vehicles!

The entire Midget manual would fit in just the drivetrain section of the Frontier manual! The whole manual is over 2000 pages!

Makes you really appreciate simple engineering.

The engine control section is 959 pages alone. If the BMC or BL engineers saw it they'd think the car could drive itself with that much electronics.

As strange as it sounds, I sill find late model Audi and BMWs easier to work on than my Midget. With the midget everything is too simple, 9 out of 10 times I over-think the issue.

Just remember, our cars were designed for a chap to keep in his bike shed, which I imagine must mean he could work on it with the tools he keeps in there.

Hi All,

I think I got you beat on things to check on a car. A short time ago I picked-up a Ford Focus Electric and the monthly checks are comprised of; Checking the lights, checking the pressure in the tires and checking the wiper fliud....That's it. At the 6 month mark they add things like checking the seatbelt latches and weatherstripping on the doors! There is a cooling/heating system for the batteries that gets checked at the 6 month mark (coolent level) but is recommended to be changed every 10 years or 150,000 miles!

Sam.
