Fellow MGCer's
I was just wondering if anyone has installed the camshaft made by Newman in the UK. Specs look pretty good for a road cam... And the price is right.

Specs do look good.
I'd check with Newman to see if valve pockets might be required though as it shows slightly higher than stock lift, especially if block decking, head planing, or higher ratio rockers are planned too.
Welch's DWR 8 cam requires pockets at .401" valve lift, their DWR 1 at .358" doesn't with stock ratio rockers.
Newman's at .383" might be pretty close to needing pockets.

Seems very cheap for a cam but esp as they have to be done from new blanks. The specs seem normal for the type of use.

I have pockets in my block, however also a bit more lift (Kent AH2). That may have saved me once when someone else was manually revving the engine and the throttle cable got stuck a tiny bit.
As for specs, maybe it's time Vic shares some of his wisdom (for road going cars).

That picture doesn't look right, I know it probably does not represent the actual product, well obviously, because that cam pictured in that link looks like a roller cam to me, look at the lobes.

Shaun,
I am not in the market to rebuild my C/GT engine at the moment but will do so maybe next year but would be interested in the cam for then if the price/specs are true. I still need to get my B/GT engine bottom end up to Hap... I have a Derrington head that has been rebuilt by Shaun over at Flowspeed. Can't wait to finish the engine/car. That little 4 cylinder should scream quite well when complete. I would be I've included a pic of the Derrington head and my C/GT. The "C" is next in line...
Paul
P.S. The Webers still need a good cleaning...

I also have an old HRG head for my B but it is cracked and weeped onto the distributor on track days, thus spoiling the fun, so I bought an MSX head with the intention of sorting the HRG. The HRG sits upstairs in the workshop and I wonder if I should drag it out and look at it.
