What is proper engine bay paint color? One has black and the other is Tartain red.

The one with black engine bay has an extra temp gauge where you would have the OD toggle switch, so if one were to put an OD tranny in, where would you all suggest he put the electric switch ?

I placed an OD in my last rdstr (a '66) and don't want to do without one !!

Thanks,
John

Proper engine bay color is ALWAYS body color, regardless of year.

You could put the OD switch under the dash, on the gear knob....just about anywhere it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

Thanks Benny.

So why would the engine bay be painted black on a claimed complete restoration ?

By the way, my first B was a '65 Iris blue rdstr--got it in '66 from a guy who was going to Viet Nam when I was in the Army. Absolutely loved that car ! Just took up the payments.

Engine bays usually end up black when a colour change is done on a car and the owner doesn't want to make the considerable effort to strip and repant the bay. Also most older American cars had black engine bays so people not familiar with MGs might paint them black....it's also an easy way to make things look superficially fresh...5 bucks for a can of flat black spray paint...
