Hi Gang
I remembered reading a post by someone looking for a lead on a hardtop for a midget.
I saw this on craigslist and it looks good and at a good price based on others I've seen.
Don't know if the location is good for anyone, but here's the link.

Hey, that's my hardtop!

I should post that in the for sale boards here but didn't think to. The top itself is in good shape but as the ad says, the window is a bit foggy and the gasket around the base in the rear will need to be replaced.

I bought the top a few years ago sight unseen with the understanding that it would fit my '66 Midget. It doesn't. So I'm just trying to turn it around for what I paid.

I didn't do anything special to paint the top at all, really. I had just finished painting the car with Rustoleum spray cans and was very pleased with the result. I wanted the top to be red instead of the faded black on my glossy black car so I decided to hit that with the Rustoleum spray cans as well. I just spent a good amount of time cleaning the top and then laying really precise strips of painter's tape around the edges. The only thing I would do differently if I were to do it again is to paint it with a less glossy coat. The gloss stuff comes across as a bit too shiny on the hardtop surface for my taste.

Hey Seth,

I might be interested in your hardtop for my '79 Midget 1500. Just a couple of questions:

1) How does the top attach at the rear points and is the hardware included? I'm assuming the attachments at the front use the standard windscreen attachments.
2) Does it require removal of the soft top, or can you just collapse the soft top and install it?
3) Will it fit in the back of my Nissan Xterra to bring it home? (this is really a question for me to figure out)

Thanks

I have the same top so I can answer some. (Also these answers are true of all the hardtops I know of regardless of maker)

1. The back will bolt down to the tonneau brackets which are on either side where the soft top attaches. Usually this is a bolt with a wingnut or a j hook.

2. The soft top does not need to be removed because the hardtop sits on the flat ridge outside the cockpit and top.

3. I transported mine in the back of my dodge caliber.... But it took some wrestling to get it in there. Upside down and sideways

Dont mean to jump on someone elses thread but hope its ok. I have a factory hardtop from my 65 Midget that I am parting out. Should fit your 66. It needs to be stripped and repainted but is otherwise in pretty good condition. PM me interested.

Hey Ralph,

Chris answered your questions much better than I could so I'll just stick with his answers. I have a deal pending locally but if it falls through I'll let you know.

Thanks!

No problem! Thanks for posting, Bill. I appreciate your offer but I'm going to decline - I'm actually going to be looking towards selling the Midget since I've been sucked into the dark (and more modern) side. Unfortunately for my Midget, my new(er) Miata fits my lifestyle much better and the Midget has taken a back burner.

Thanks!
