Too bad he not sell strut for engine hood of VW Passat, too. I need one those for grand daughter car. That engine hood so very heavy, unlike LBC. I always thought lighter cars for future, but with German car makers (autounion) to lead way, only get bigger and heavier. I think 4300 lb ridiculous weight for VW. Obvious I think that light weight car better? My NSX weight like feather, yet very strong "honeycomb" strength underframe of Aluminum.
I had always hope for this construction style (honeycomb) to catch on all cars, with price drop big amount at production method perfected and made rapid. Imagine if for instance all cars 1/2 weight, with Passat at 2150 lbs instead? No gasoline shorts in that scheme.

Is anyone aware if anyone makes gas struts for the hatch on a GT? Just wondering, seems like a good idea but not sure how it could be done. Maybe someone smarter then me has figured it out.
Please send me an e-mail or private message with your e-mail address and I can send you information.
Yes, I indeed have a strut kit for the plywood/composite GT hatch interior decklid (boot cover).

Stewart,
Both Moss and VB sell gas strut sets for the rear hatch, hood and trunk for the MGBs. These also include the mounting hardware. The only issue I have with the struts both vendors sell is that the struts seem to loose pressure when they get cold and won't hold the hatch open. I have not experienced this with the hood struts, just the hatch ones.
An additional source it the manufacturer Strabilus. They have several struts of acceptable length (approx. 23" with both slightly greater pressure and they don't seem to loose their pressure. They have two struts of this length that can handle the weight of the hatch;
#094641 is 23" long and under 56.2 lbs of pressure and #083895 also 23" long under 44.9 lbs of pressure. I use the first one on my 73 BGT because when I hit the latch button, the hatch slowly and completely opens. Have not tried the other one as yet, but since the hatch with glass weights about 30 lbs or so I'm sure it to would do the job.
As for the spare tire hatch, I used an old hood strut I had and attached it on one side, it's so nice to open that hatch and not having to hold it open.Both the hood and spare hatch struts are 2yrs old and have never had issues with them.

I use a different strut manufacturer than those offered by Moss, Vicky Brit, Clark & Clark, et al. I've not run into this problem.
My kits were the first on the market.
...thanks for supporting the "little guy".

Hi Guys - new to the forum! The rear gas struts are a great idea but only available as a very expensive kit in the uk. Has anyone fitted a kit and be prepared to share the length of the struts I'd need as I think eBay might be a cheaper option !
Any thoughts appreciated!
