My 73 B has a Pertronix flamethrower distributor and a Flamethrower HV coil.

it appears that the innards of the distributor have failed. Can i replace them with the LU-142a kit? The magnet inside the distributor shows LU-143 and LU-144 on it...

LU143 is for 1975 and 1975 45D distributor. LU142A is for a 1962-1974 25D distributor. LU144 is for about 1980 with the blue sliding points. If you have a 25D, feel free to use LU142. If you have a 45D, use LU143. Depending on where your Pertronix distributor came from it is probably a 45D - some retailers do not sell the 25D as was original in your car. Both distributors work in your car but you have to match the module to the distributor. Rob is correct if you want to put a Pertronix in your original 25D (LU142a). But if you bought a 5D with the pertronix installed - it should be LU143. Call, PM or email if I can help you figure out what you have. Thanks. Basil 707762.0974 basiladams@yahoo.com

I also put a Petronix in my mga with a BMW engine the distributor only lasted a couple thousand miles before it got so sloppy it started to malfunction I trashed it and went back to stock with points sometimes it's hard to beat the original engineers
The curve on the Petronix was not correct anyway runs and idles better now
