I'm sure most of you that know Don, knew he had a health issue a few months back. Dave and I had spoken about it a few times, and Dave called Connie Dickey (Don's wife) shortly after it happen to check up on him. Neither one of us felt like it was our place to state any of this on a public forum, as some folks want to keep such matters private. Today when Dave and I talked, I ask him, if he had any updates on Don, I have been thinking about him a lot, and wanted to know how he was doing, so Dave gave me Don's work number, and I just called and talked to Connie.
Connie told me Don was getting stronger every day, and drove to work today, and worked for few hours. he has been doing physical therapy and getting stronger each day. He is bummed out that he won't be back to 'full horsepower" in time for the big Watkins Glen race, but fully expects to be back at the steering wheel next season. I explained to Connie that Dave and I didn't want to state anything about this publicly without her permission, and she said he would mean a lot to Don, to know we all were thinking about him, and that a bunch of racing friends of Don from the Hallett race earlier this year had sent him a get well card, and it had meant a lot to him.
I first met Don, when I help find him the red #10 Huffaker MGB, and liked him right off the bat. Don has always been supportive of me since I met him, and I always considered him a good man, a friend, and damn good race driver.
Don, I hope this thread finds you, and brings a smile to your face. I will never forget the supportive words you told me at last year's MGVR event at Summit Point. I can tell you, I was bummed to be watching that race from the sidelines, and not out there with you, and the others, but if I had to watch that race, rather than compete in it, I couldn't think of another guy I would rather have saw won it that day, you did great my friend
So Don know we all are rooting for you to have a speedy, and full recovery, and hope to see you again racing soon my friend.

Don,
Looking forward to you getting bcak on track for speedy recovery, and back in the car. We ran at COTA last year (that is, you passed me very quickly...), and at other events in the past. See you out there again, soon.

Sometimes you miss a phone call, and get a voice mail, and it's no big deal, other times you wish you had been able to get that phone when the caller called. Well I got one of those phone calls last Friday, I wished I had been able to catch when they called, it was no other than our friend Don Dickey. He thanked me for this thread about him, and thanked you all for your thoughts and kind words, he said it really meant alot to him.
If I had gotten that phone call, I think the thing I would have wanted to say is.
Don, you really mean alot to all of us too, get well my friend.
