I drove the GT to work today, and took my friend for lunch in it. He's got really original '67 Camaro 4-speed, a '58 Chevy truck, and an LS-powered '70 Camaro with the full Pro-Touring treatment.
When we got back from lunch, he goes "That would be a fun car to drive cross-country in...I think I'll start looking for one".
He did mention that it would be his "wife's car", but he also says that about his '58 truck...

Honestly, a stock '67 Camaro and a Pro-Street '70 Camaro would both drive about as good as a '58 Chevy pick-up. The front suspension parts and pieces might even interchange . . .
None of them would even come even a tiny bit close to the handling of your GT, I can easily imagine that your friend was pretty impressed !

Pro-Touring....big difference. It's running a full Detroit Speed suspension package, and with very wide, very sticky tires, an LS-1 and 6-speed, it's quite a car.
Before riding in his '70 Camaro, I never gave a second thought to owning a 60's American car. After he took me for a ride in it, I started looking around, and ended up with my '65 Fastback with full Global West suspension.

"a full Detroit Speed suspension package"
" . . . with full Global West suspension."
That's the ticket ! As they came from the factory, the GM cars left a LOT to be desired. Fords were a different story entirely though, the Mustangs and Falcons tore things up, even in basically stock trim. I always though that it had something to do with the GM engine set-back, which seems almost counter intuitive . . .
