I was looking at a 59 or maybe 60 with asking price of almost $20K. Seemed solid in many respects. Paint was cracking a bit up top, dripping oil where possible. One strange thing was looking at the inner sill area at the rear wheel by the dog leg it looked like a flat piece of aluminum 4 or 6 inches tall was bolted in to probably cover a hole. The car has a lot of bolts along the bottom edge.

Sorry the photo is so terrible, i forgot my camera and flashlight.

It was harder to look under vs many other garage stored cars, I think they had some cat litter on the floor, soakin up oil.

Engine seemed ok, magnet stuck well to most lower body parts. body joint sill near rear of pass door had a space - as if it was a mini- hood scoop May 1/8 gap..

excellent you are finding all the weak spots.....nothing good comes from a repair panel described like that!!!! its easy for people to ignore the rust and value the car like it was solid. it will probably be impossible to find a car that hasn't been restored not to have rust in those areas. you just need to have the asking price reflect the amount of work needed to make it right. it may be worth your while to go to a body shop and have a conversation with them about repair work on a future purchase it may give some good leverage when you go to negotiate pricing on a car that you like. and the repair costs may be an eye opener

Steve, if you can see these types of repairs, you need to consider what may be hidden from view. For $20k the vehicle should pretty much problem free and easily drivable from day 1. Good luck in the search.
