I have a crankshaft pulley that was somehow separated (I think a PO set the pulley down on the front cross-member during an engine pull, causing the two pieces to separate).

I certainly have the skill and tools to physically press the two parts back together, and I have the original rubber-ish material that goes in-between. It appears more or less unharmed. But I'm nervous about vibrations if I don't align the two parts exactly.

Has anyone done this?

The two pieces were actually bonded together, that is the "rubber" was introduced between them and cured in place.

See the descriptive paragraph at the top of this page.

- The inner and outer steel parts were factory balanced as a unit.
- The inner crank snout keyway and the outer ring timing marks must be properly aligned.

Be safe out there.

The damper doctor and the damper dude both made fixtures to reassemble them properly.
It sounds like someone used the improper pulley to removed the balancer, grabbing it by the outer edge instead of using a bolt-in steering wheel (type) puller.

Plus the fact that the rubber only stays properly compliant for 20 or so years. So, all our cars should have their damper redone so it has the correct "harmonic" balance.

There are many parts worth saving, this isn't one of them.
Toss it in the trash and buy a new one !

Ever Wonder ?
