Hi Roger
I had the bonnet (hood) of when I fitted my insulation I sprayed it with contact adhesive,
Then filled a balloon up with water and placed it in the blister over night.
That was over 20yrs ago and it still fits a treat

James,

That was a very clever idea, instant correct shape weight.
From what I can see, I still have the factory bonnet insulation under the bonnet (hood), the factory used contact cement glue.

Bruce.

Jim:
For sake of good order, that was using the jute-backed material as used on the jack bag? Material cut to fit the entire bonnet or just the blister? I didn't think that material would stretch that much.

The modern material is vinyl faced Hardura and you have a legitimate concern. I'll be paying attention myself.

Roger,

I recently striped the old liner and replaced it with one provided by Robert Kirk. Important, I think that material is warm and pliable; I think it was in the low 80s when I did mine and I didn't have any problem molding the material into the carb blister. Lay the bonnet liner in the sun or on the warm driveway if possible. Laid on a good coat of glue on both surfaces waited until tacky and massaged the material into the Carb blister.

Also important to check that the top radiator seal will seal properly against the bonnet given the extra material of the liner. The clearance with my install were very close, and a trail pre-fit proved that I needed to reduce the thickness of the bonnet liner in order to properly shut the bonnet, seal against radiator seal without bowing the bonnet when latched. I used a horse hair trimmer to taper a channel in the underlying insulating jute before installing insuring a good seal at the radiator and maintaining alignment and fit of the bonnet.

BTW I used 3M 08090 Yellow Super Trim Adhesive
