Noticed tonight that there is antifreeze weeping out around the block heater fitting on the side of the engine block. What I would like is some info on this. As the MGB will never see the need for this device (not ever being driven in cold weather)is there some sort of blanking plate I can install to remove the block heater and stop the leak..

Here's a simple solution, the base of the valve and a 3/8" bolt, put an O ring under the head to make a seal winking smiley

Would look neater with the nut inside but space is limited in the head, or you could tap a thread in the base and fit a plug.

You can renew the O-Ring on this to seal the leak. Remove this block heater and take it with its O-Ring to the parts counter. Easy Peasy. Of course if you want to remove it completely, buy a welch plug the same size as the block heater and install it.
This is what it looks like, you can see the groove for the ring;

FWIW I carry an old block heater in the boot in case of a welch plug letting go when I am away from home base.

Thanks Bruce. Seeing the way it goes in it will be easy to fix. Now I'm regreting not putting a drain in my radiator while I had it out. Was in a hurry to get the B running so with blinders on I ignored all those who suggested that be done. My mother said I was stubborn and didn't listen ha.

Sorry Reg, don't see many of those.

If it's not required and leaking anyway then why not replace it either with a proper freeze plug or one of the after market alternatives.

The items below are part of my spares kit, the bottom two being a Betson bolt for the rear plug and a freeze plug to use with it !
