Have to install a new temperature guage and run a new choke cable and I was wondering if it will be worth it to drop the sterring column to give me a bit more access to the back of my dash on my 72. Anyone done this before?

Cheers
Ron

Yes, it will be easier to access behind the dash with the column lowered. You don't have to remove it; just remove the 3 bolts that attach the column to the dash bracket.

Watch out for the heater controls. They're sharp in the wrong places so can draw blood.

Ron,

I just had to remove and replace the speedometer, and this helped me quite a bit. Was able to get my hand up behind the gauges.

By the way, thank you to Ralph!

For those 2 things, which are on the right side of the dash, lowering the steering column would be a marginal improvement to access. Of course, it wouldn't hurt.

x2 though on removing the driver's seat, and the heater/damper mechanism.

Pull out the tach to get access to the temp gauge through the tach hole. If your choke sheath is still good just run a new inner cable threw.
