Replacing SU fuel pump with a a Hardi pump, which is shaped like SU. Turns out their is no standard mg bracket holding my old SU pump in. Old owner just put a hose clamp around top of pump where it pokes through to the trunk. Anyone have a photo of how the original clamps worked in a 76mgb? Where they connnected and where they attached to car? Heard of Banjo clamps but don't know how and where they attach.

Can't use old owners method on new fuel pump.

Is the pump you're adding like the original SU and you want to mount it near the battery box? If so here's the bracket arrangement. Dave DuBois has pics of the correct orientation on his pages but that's for SU not Hardi (which I don't know). Of course later cars had a different mounting system.

DD is MGE's resident SU guru; I just assumed you would know. Here's a link. His signature block when he posts has a link to his pages.

X2 on Dave D. Here is his web site URL. http://homepages.donobi.net/sufuelpumps/

IIRC the SU slips through a large rubber gromet and is secured with a large clamp. Some had a clamp like Moss part #377-350.

Bret - I don't know just when the mounting position of the SU fuel pumps changed from just in front of the tight rear wheel to the trunk. Both installations require a large grommet, but the two grommets are different. If you say that the Hardi pump is slightly smaller than the original SU pump, you will have to shim either grommet to fit the Hardi Pump. The link that Barrie sent shows both grommets. If your pump mounts through the forward bulkhead of the trunk, you want grommet marked 56 in the lower left square, along with hose clamp marked 57 (any hose clamp of the correct size can be used to hold the pump in place).
Cheers,

I also changed from tradional SU to electronic Hardi and noted the slightly smaller diametre of the body of the Hardi. Still I could tighten the clamp for the SU just enough (after taping the Hardi well I must admit). It is wise to have a roll of this tape in black or metallic in your garage. So a piece of "gaffer" tape is all the extra you need, but of course in addition to the proper bracket and the rubber grommet that goes with it. MG

Thanks. My challenge though is trying to figure out where the clamp is supposed to attach to the car, as it did not have a clamp previously.

Brett. The rubber bumper cars have a purpose made rubber grommet that is inserted into the hole in the trunk rear wall. The body of the pump is passed into it from the outside, then a clamp goes around the rubber to keep the pump in location.

The items are listed here: http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29002

377-370 is the rubber grommet
377-380 is the clamp

I've added images of what they look like in situ. Sorry, I don't have an image without the fuel pump cover in place. You can see the edge of the grommet though.
