So I live out here on the rainy side of the big island, HI. We get 120" of rain a year. Compared to Seattle where I lived for the first 58 years of my life, in the gray and drizzle, you know it when it rains here. But most days it is warm and sunny, then you get a hard down pour for ten minutes, then it is warm and sunny again. I love to drive with the top removed!

So with that long intro, I was trying to come up with a quick and easy tonneau cover to make that would be water tight yet be quick and easy to put on with a full roll bar. The back end is no problem, just snap it in as usual. I can also make a pocket for the roll bar easy enough. But was mor worried about the front end. I was thinking of getting a used head bar? With clamps and clamp it to the windshield, but then you have to worry about the windows, etc. I have a removable style top, so by then it is getting almost to the point of putting the top on. Maybe just some snaps on the front top of the windshield like a boat top? Maybe just some snaps all the way around the cockpit and on the body in front of the windshield and cove everything? Anyone gone this far for a cover?

Thanks

Gary

And see if the Bimini top works for your needs. My friends/customers Jim Legg and Mac Townsend both have them and they are great quality and attractive and I think they address your issues :-) Basil 707.762.09874 basiladams@yahoo.com

Thanks Basil, but that cover doesn't cover much, it is very open. I will keep designing and looking.

Almost ready to put those floor pans you sent me a year ago!

If you don't go with some sort of already designed and made MG cover go talk to some guys at a marina.

There are all kinds of ideas on boating cockpit covers. Similar problems about sealing around masts, booms and guard rails.

A cover isn't the problem - a leak free cover is more challenging. Especially one you can rig quickly.

Sunbrella works great vs. vinyl and can be rolled up, screwed up, mashed up in many abusive ways and still remain watertight.

I'd consider a design the hooks into the existing rear hood clips, pulls forward and attaches by bungees at the front and sides.

I did see that thread, which is what got me thinking. dan, my wife can do the sewing. I've been in the boat business for 45 years, so have been thinking along those lines too. just didn't want to reinvent the wheel if someone had a good, water tight design that was quick and easy to remove. guess that might be me.

Does anyone happen to have a valid email for Ed Kirkland, who makes those Bimini tops? His FSU address is defunct

I bet your wife could whip this up in sunbrella lickety-split.

Thanks Dan. that looks like it would work great. I can modify it a bit to fit the back better and have less bungies hanging down to look better and rub the new (or soon to be) paint job less. I don't know how I missed that in their catalog.

Yeah - I'd do the back to pick up the lift a dots and the rear clip then pull it forward, over the windshield and figure out how to attach.

I like the idea of the velcro or whatever they did around around the door pulls - much quicker than the tonneau snaps.

Don't totally reject the bimini top variations. Something like the ones Jeep uses...?
