Hi everyone, I'm new here. I tried searching topics to find some solution to this problem but didn't see anything and hope I don't duplicate a topic. I have a '76 MG Midget which I bought as a project a couple years ago; and aside from its great looks, it needs work. So it was overheating last summer, so I parked it and bought a thermostat for it. Didn't drive it for the rest of the year because winter was fast approaching. Now here we are, gearing up for summer, so I decided to pop in the new thermostat to see if we could fix the problem. After removing the thermostat housing, I find out there wasn't even a thermostat in there. So I clean it up and add the new one. As I'm putting the two bolts back on the thermostat housing, I feel a crack. Sure enough, it broke the water pump housing. So now I can't even tighten it down. I can't for the life of me find the part online. Any suggestions?

There are plenty of used parts vendors on that Buy, Sell & Trade forum. Someone will have one.

Corey,
Just a bit of advice.
The shop manual states the torque for the thermostat nuts is 20 ft.lbs.
This seemed excessive to me. I torqued the both at 10 ft.lbs. and it is tight as a drum and watertight!
Don't forget to use a good quality gasket.
