“Ole Yeller”
Got it cheap. Good body, usable interior. Runs pretty well, no smoke, or knocks. I get the feeling it was wrecked, but can't prove it! (Edit - yeah, wrecked! Inside of passenger door is white. Some evidence of something dinging the underside a bit.) Just some funny looking bent brackets on the bottom and ill fitting bumpers, etc.
Top is pretty well hacked. Someone did not know how to fold it, but it will keep the rain out for a while. Front brakes are metal on metal. Back are good. Takes a while to get parts here.(Edit - not any more, got Basil on the team now!) Should be done by 7/1/10. Meanwhile not driving it.
Wires all over God's green acre to attempt to cut radio noise. I am thinking of pulling the radio and all that crap outta there. Can't hear it for beans anyway.
(Edit - more interesting as time goes on. Some parts show evidence of lots of use, others do not. All bushings were totally shot, but all the nuts and bolts come out easily. It looks like a factory exhaust. Either that, or an original replaced VERY well. Pedal covers are worn. Don't quite know what to make of it.)
After owning ole Yeller for two years now, she's a keeper. It don't look great, but it runs and drives like a charm.
Took it on a 4.300 mile trip, averaging 28 MPG, never missed a beat. Less than one (1) quart of oil. Total problems were one starter relay, and an alternator changed on suspicion. Oh, and it blew a heater hose 50 miles from being back home. My fault, I knew it was old. Not for sale. Not now, maybe never.
Turned out to be true, it never did sell. I gave it away to a lucky winner!
