This particular MG TD was among the last 16 built, constructed on the last day of MG TD production on August 16, 1953. This example features a host of modifications.

The engine is the original 1250 XPAG. It has been rebuilt with the head ported and polished. A Magnacharger supercharger has been added. An MGA-type 1-1/2 in HS4 carburetor with a K&N cleanable filter is used. The owner has fabricated a special heat shield to improve heat transfer, boost performance and eliminate vapor lock. The fuel delivery is improved by the use of a high capacity MGB fuel pump, although the stock electric pump remains in place and can be switched on in the case of pump failure. An aluminum oil filter conversion also uses a K&N filter. A cast aluminum valve cover in the pre-war MG style along with a matching cast aluminum tappet cover make the engine visually more pleasing. Stock ignition with bumblebee wiring and period Champion sockets are retained. An MGB-style 7 blade plastic fan is used for cooling efficiency and safety. The transmission is stock, but the gearset has been replaced with a rare MGA Twincam set utilizing 4.10:1 gears for additional top speed.

Inside, the red interior is in superb condition and has been augmented with the installation of a supplementary instrument for monitoring the supercharger. The steering wheel comes from Motolita.

The body is refinished in the original MG Red paint color. It is in excellent condition. Upgrades include a pre-war style coolant filler, chrome factory-style luggage rack and chrome tail light plinths. The radiator slats have been replaced with a mesh-style grille that evokes the pre-war Bentley image and improves cooling efficiency. A Morgan-style leather belt makes certain the bonnet holds in place. Weather trim includes off-white top and side screens, and when the weather is nice, a duck tonneau can be used. A variety of badges are mounted on a bar between the front frame rails.

The brake drums have been replaced with Alfin units to improve stopping power and cooling, and the hubs have been converted to accept 60-spoke Dayton wire wheels. The brakes have recently been gone over with the wheel cylinders and shoes replaced.

I'm not a purist. I love the modifications.
