Dear MGB Enthusiasts,

Following up on our earlier report on our trip to NAMGBR MG2018 in Gettysburg, we’ve secured a block of ten rooms at the Historic Stonewall Jackson Hotel www.stonewalljacksonhotel.com in Stonewall Hotel

downtown Staunton, Virginia, for Sunday, June 17th with a group rate of only $131/night which includes enclosed parking in the adjacent parking garage. Reservations can be made by calling the hotel directly at 540) 885-4848 and telling them you are a part of the 2018 Historic MGB Civil War Adventure group to secure the discounted rate. On our trip up through Virginia on Sunday, we plan to stop for a “Family Style” lunch at the Historic Pine Tavern in Floyd, Virginia and then possibly stopping at Virginia’s Natural Bridge State Park on our way to Staunton. Staunton, Virginia, is the birthplace of Woodrow Wilson and has the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum info@woodrowwilson.org with the president’s Pierce-Arrow Limousine on display. There are several other Automobile Collections and Museums in the city www.visitstaunton.com. The last guided tour at the Presidential Library and Museum is at 3:30 pm so we’re planning on lunch at the Historic Pine Tavern at noon to give everyone plenty of time for the various tourist options. Staunton is also the home of Beth Lunney’s alma mater, Mary Baldwin College and she promises to give us all a historical tour of the college and lovely city. To make our lunch reservation we will need to depart the Charlotte area by 8:00 am so we can take our time and enjoy a leisurely drive north up to Virginia taking I-77 to the Blue Ridge Parkway..

On Monday, June 18th, as we continue north to Gettysburg, there is a portion of our group that would like to visit the Luray Caverns www.luraycaverns.com while others could visit several historic Civil War National Historic Parks including New Market, Harper’s Ferry, or Antietam. Our goal is to arrive in Gettysburg in plenty of time to register for MG2018 as well as prepare and attend the “First Timer’s Car Show and Reception.” Registration is now open for MG2018 at //http:MG2018@NAMGBR.org.

After the four day event in Gettysburg, our group will depart for the trip home on Friday, June 22 and drive on non-Interstate roads through Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia, before we stop for the evening in Historic Charlottesville which is the home of P.J. Lenihan’s alma mater, The University of Virginia. We’ve secured a discounted block of rooms at the Historic UVA Inn at Darden www.innatdarden.com on the campus with a group rate of only $130/night and P.J. is planning on leading the group on a tour of the University “Grounds” and then to a dinner at his favorite college “Hangout.”

UVA Grounds

History abounds in and all around Charlottesville and the Inn has agreed to extend our special rate for Saturday evening for anyone wanting to visit Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, James Madison’s Montpelier or James Monroe’s Ash Lawn. Reservations for the UVA Inn at Darden can be made by calling the Inn directly at (434) 297-7384 and telling them you are with the 2018 MGB Carolina Caravan to secure the discounted rate.

Reports from NAMGBR indicate that registrations are coming in very fast are already well over 200 at the end of January and that they expect total registrations to be over 350 cars. The Wyndam Hotel is nearly full and they have opened up the adjacent Marriott Courtyard hotel for the additional registration. For more information regarding our trip up and back to Gettysburg this summer. please give me a call or send me a message.

anyone interested in joining our group coming or going: this is a reminder to make your hotel reservations in Stanton, VA and or Charlottesville, VA

and make sure to finish your thorough service to the ole MG

it's the little things that often cause an unscheduled stop

a shake-down cruise of 50-100 miles a month before departure is advised, this allows plenty of time to do additional fixes!

we'd love to have a few more of you guys join us

we will have way too much fun, and good weather for sure

I'm getting closer to having my MGBGT ready for a shake-down cruise, been messing about with the passenger area.
