78' MGB Fair Price [WA, USA]
Car For Sale MGB
Gig Harbor, WA, USA   USA
I'm wondering what a fair asking price is for my 78' MGB. I thought my asking price of $5,800 was fair based on what I'm seeing out there but I'm not getting the action I thought I would.

I'm hoping to get a little guidance from the group in regards to where this car needs to priced (i know there are many variables) to generate some interest.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

This is my craigslist add...

Good luck with your sale. Beauty is in the eye of beholder. IMO, your car has a rubber bumper which is a minus to me and few other people. I think your car will sell if it is $2,500 or lower. I might be wrong.

Currently, there is a 1970 with 76k miles, Chrome bumper selling for only $2,750. It has been there for a while meaning that no one looks at it. It was lower from $3,000 about 2 week ago.

On the other hand, this rubber bumper MGB sold on bring a trailer for $5500. In pictures yours looks better. Maybe you should take some more photos and submit it to them. It'll cost you $99 if it's accepted, but you have a far better chance of selling and to a real buyer.

Jordan - Don't take this personally but I think part of the problem is the ad.

It is not your job to point out any defects so why do so. Think about all the good things about your car and list them.

Describing the body blemishes and cracked headrests is doing you no favors.

Also, just for me at $5800 price point for an RB I would expect a very solid car with great paint, interior and mechanicals.

My "gut" would tell me that your car is a solid $4200-4500 car.

How about

1978 MGB Convertible. 108K original miles. Great driver and loads of fun. All original and unmolested. Well maintained as my (summer/every day) driver.

- Always garaged
- New tires & battery
- Upholstery & top in very good condition
- No rust & good paint
- Engine strong, original & unmolested runs and drives great
- Included extras - spare tire & jack, car cover, collector plates

The goal - Reliable summer driver interspersed with mechanical tinkering...
Motto - "Driving fifty in the twisties..."

Your ride height looks excessive even for a r/b, the seats are covered in a non-stock covering, etc. None of that helps.

I think location must have something to do with it not selling a well. I've seen RBBs sell in the +/- $5000 range in the SF Bay Area plenty.
