This is 2 year only steering column.

You probably should disassemble the unit, replace the plastic "pins", replace the bearings with the bushing available from a MGEXP member and generally clean it up.

Hows the column it replaced? FWIW I can convert it to a late thread pattern should someone want to do so. Until recently the fine thread nut was NLA. Available now but a bit pricey

No, the MGC uses a different column. I know at least the bottom part of the column is different. Have rebuilt some MGC columns and now wish I had taken some pics for reference

I have 2 other columns.My original and the one in the the car I mod'd for a detachable steering wheel. They are both good.
