Rob, I agree. The engine is short so set back or notch rear of crossmember?

so far that has been a really good engine for chev. the only thing I've seen on them is evap codes and some of the early versions developed vacuum leaks at the valve cover, this engine wont run correct if the dipstick isn't seated all the way. I work at a Chevrolet dealership btw.

There are a number of different oil pans for the Gen 2 Ecotecs. The Gen 3 oil pans are apparently interchangeable with Gen 2 in the 2.0+ size. No data on the 1.4 yet (nice pictures, BTW). Chances are that something else will fit that will work. Do you know if the 1.4 block is physically the same size as the 2.0?

The 1.4 engine with turbo gets 138 bhp but another 35 whp (note - not BHP) and 50 ft lbs is available with a simple tune, getting you close to 200 bhp.

Bill, 1.4 and 1.8 are Family 1. Different block, more like a small block version of the larger Ecotec. Different bellhousing(Isuzu 2.2 pattern). Cast iron short block reminds me of Ford Zetec. Complete engine only weighs 250lbs. I didn't know that Isuzu used the T5 in it's 90's 2WD. Unfortunately it is 3.97 first and .81 OD.

Thanks, Jim - wasn't sure.

I'd probably opt for the small engines in Sprites and such but go for the 2.0 or up on the larger sports cars like the MGB.

Aaron, Not my project. I think it bolted right up except for 1 bolt. I don't know the length of the Isuzu T5 input. If the Mustang T5 is used there is a spacer for the long shaft. Build thread and pictures? The Sprite rear axle will need to be upgraded.

JIm, I think the Spridget crowd is watering for a swap like that !!!

Those pieces that hang over the bellhousing look like they would be a pain to deal with.
