Shocks act as an upper control arm on these cars. If the lever shaft is loose in the bore then suspension geometry will be all over the place. Adding aftermarket dampening won't solve the problem of a worn out shock lever. Everything has to be up to spec before modifications (lowering) should be attempted.

So you have not done anything to fix the original problem which will likely turn out to be Worn Metal Bushings / Cracked A Arms/ Worn out fulcrum pin. Here's the link to get it apart and fix it. You need rebuilt shocks from Peter C. NFI but he is the best

After you get it apart and a Sawzall is your friend, you will need a Major Suspension Kit, likely 2 new Wishbones the metal bushings wear our and those threads inside the bushings is what wears out. Often they are cracked from lack of maintenance. Take it all apart and ship parts off to Peter Caldwell as the new bushings will need to be reamed to fit. Peter offers a turnkey service for that. While you are talking to Peter order order 4 shocks front and rear. Give him your credit card # and in a few days new shocks will appear at your door. Cores can be returned Prepaid in the same boxes.

When you are done, car will drive like it's on rails, goes where you want it, and is rock stable at 75-80+ and is safe. Yes by the time you are done the rebuild on the front end of a Spridget is the second most expensive repair you will do to this car. I've done 4 rebuilds and when done this way your car will drive like on rails. .
