Hello

As my MGA has the original bolt on steel wheels and I’d like somewhat wider and sportier yet classic looking wheels (I.e. not so keen on Minilites), I’m considering the TR6 wheels.

Has anyone out there tried this? Any pictures of what it would look like?

Here’s a link to the exact wheels I’m considering.

Thanks

IIRC, the back spacing of the TR6 wheel is not correct for the MGA. I think they'd rub on the fenders since they are also wider and would take bigger tires.

It's been done before, so they can be fitted. Google 'MGA TR6 Wheels'.

Hi Erik
I had tr6 wheels on my A roadster back in the 70’s to get wider wheels. I fitted Dunlop aqua jet tyres which I think were 185 section. I had to turn the wing flanges out and added Mini wheel arch trim to protect the ‘sharp’ edges and to do diving tests at Silverstone MGCC events. Because of the ‘rubbing onto the wings I changed to reverse rim MGB 14” wheels and tyres. These solved the rubbing but I had to make thin spacers for the fronts to miss the calipers. Having now rebuilt the car I have fitted 15” ‘Minilite copies with 185/65x15 tyres with the correct offset have no problems in the wheel arches.
Hope this is useful

When I see that you are from Sweden I immediately think of wheels from the Volvo V40, they have the right bolt circle, or from a Saab 99/900.

I mounted 4 spare wheels with 15*5" from the V40, they fit perfectly and the offset is also ok.

I've run stock TR-6 steel and wire wheels on an MGA and I currently have the same width and likely the same offset on my coupe with these widened Twin Cam wheels. No clearance issues. Do not try this with an MGB though - they'll cause rear wheel interference.
