What should the numbers be on an early MGB 3.9 rear end. I knopw it is on Barney's site but I can not seem to find it.

Barney second link is likely to be the one you want. You will most likely need to change the 'spider gears'. to match the splines on the half-shafts that are in your car.

George,

If you're looking at going to 3.9 gears to improve highway driving I suggest you find someone who has made this change and take a ride in their car. I went with the 3.9 gears and the car cruises wonderfully at 65 mph. However, I really lost a lot of acceleration. I even went with a hot cam in the rebuild to compensate for the gears and it didn't make up for it. It pulls forever in each gear but nothing happens quickly.

George,

We have 3.9 rear ends in both our MGAs, together with FORD T9 five speed gearboxes. We have no problem accelerating off the line with this arrangement.

Peter.
