ARO Valve hooks to the top of that hose, bottom vents to the atmosphere under the car. You would also have a smaller hose from the intake manifold to the ARO, and 2 wires with female bullet connectors that hook to the ARO Valve. When you shut off the engine the ARO activates for a second or two to relieve manifold vacuum. It is designed to prevent dieseling.

What is that for? And what does it look like I'm missing. Are they important?

It's pretty obvious you are a neophyte when it comes to these cars, I hope you at least have a manual. Yes you are missing the ARO (anti run on) valve and maybe more, hard to tell without a good picture of your engine bay (try to post a good picture). Is it important, not so much, depending on what else your car is missing.

If your car starts, runs and shuts off without issue and has no raw fuel smell you can live without it.

Drop me an email and I will email you the shop manual for the MGB as a PDF file.

Yes I am a newbie. Inherited from my mother who passed last year. She took to a mechanic that didn't like brittish cars so hard to say what was cannibalized. I do have orriginal manual. Will post pictures later today.

If you decide to live without put the hose on Buy, Sell, and Trade forum. They are NLA as a new part.

If your car has been converted to a Weber carb, the ARO valve would be useless anyway....

Welcome to the forum! I didn't mention that the hose you showed is no longer available. It isn't really necessary but matters to those who are OE freaks. Take good care of it!

Thanks to all those who responded to my hose to nowhere post. I can see I will be using this forum quite often. I happened to notice it while I was in the middle of a complete brake redo and was headed for the master cylinders to replace them. Just one more thing to add to the ongoing list thank you all.
