This job is so easy a six year old could do it.
Allow me to introduce the six year old:
Vincent

Prior to today Vincent has never looked under the hood of a car without being lifted.
Vincent has never worked on a car or repaired or built anything other than LEGOs.

Disconnecting the cable at the pedal.

Obviously the PO had replaced the cable at some time.

In order to mimic a roadside repair we re-used the existing fittings as required.

I provided a little muscle to remove the cable limiter at the carbs. They were out of Vincent's reach.

The cable in the foreground is the choke cable which was not attached.

just passing the sixteen minute mark.
It takes time to take the photos and when something doesn't come out we have to re-do or re-stage for the camera.
Lighting is difficult because of the bright sunshine and the shadows in the garage.

Here we have Vincent with the defective cable system after removal.
It is laid out for reference while assembling the new cable.

Opening the bicycle cable package.
We got this at Wal-Mart for $6, though it works just fine it is not as smooth as the replacements from the MG vendors. In fact I eventually sourced a replacement cable and will fit it myself to regain that silky smooth feel under the foot. For this How To we used the roadside available anywhere bike cable.

FWIW we also went through some side procedures because I originally intended to keep the bike cable as the throttle cable.

A quick look at the gas pedal where the cable attaches to pick among the cables in the bicycle kit.

choosing the cable and checking to see that it will securely rest in the pedal arm.

Adding some leverage... six year old muscles have a hard time with steel cables, the vise grip pliers have a cutter in them and the spring helps him to achieve the necessary 'snap' to sever the cable.

Body weight doesn't hurt the effort!

After a break for lunch, (Grandma called us in for grilled cheese sandwiches and root beer, followed by a quick trip to the park for an hour with Vincent's little sister...)

We got right back on the job.

The fittings on the end of the bike cable didn't fit inside the fittings we removed from the old cable so they had to go. Roadside you could have made it work but we are in the shop so we took care of it.

once snipped they were sharp.

The flash makes the grinder look like it is standing still but it was spinning.

A light touch on the side of the stone cleaned it up very nicely.

After placing the cable housing into place (sorry no photos) he threads the adjustment nut in place, followed by the crimp style cable stop.

The crimp stop failed on first pedal depress so don't use them.

I put the old cable stop back on and cut the excess cable for him so we could take it out for a drive while he cleaned up and let grandma know we were leaving.
