While the awaken MGB has been completed, there is always more work pending on the car. During the quick test drive, I don't believe the brake booster is functioning properly. I will need to do the booster to verify my thoughts, but the brake pedal requires a fair amount of pressure to stop the car. I have also been reading about how to tune the ZS carb that is on the car. I knew something I did during the rebuild threw something out of whack since the car would not idle below 2000 RPM and the idle adjustments accomplished nothing. I ran across a post that suggested I remove the upper unit that contains the needle and use the tuning tool to view the movement of the needle. I took that advice and finally learned how to tune the needle for fuel flow. I was able to get the idle of the car down to about 1000 RPM with some changes to the needle movement. I have additional tuning to do, but the car seems to run much better. Essentially I was just dumping a massive amount of fuel into the car and causing black smoke to come from the exhaust. Amazed the car even functioned. This would have been an issue I caused during the rebuild. Simply not understanding how the carb worked.
My other concern was that I never ran the car long enough to see if the fan's work on the car. I did notice several months ago that one of the fan connectors were disconnected. I re-connected that as I wanted everything hooked up so I could troubleshoot anything electrical that was necessary. After letting the car warm up with the new lower idle, the fan's finally turned on. Unfortunately at that point, I learned why the one fan was disconnected. one of the two fan's bearing's were making a loud grinding noise. Headed to the battery compartment to disconnect it to prevent any damage to the car. I then disconnected the fan from the harness and re-attached the battery to make sure the issue was only with one fan. Fortunately the other fan functioned as expected. Wiring is good for both connectors, but 1 bad fan motor. I'll put that on the list to research and repair in the future.
I also noticed that I seem to have a slight leak from the rear differential in the car. I've tightened both fill and drain screws and it still seems to not have remedied the issue. I might need to drain the fluid and refill it with some putty to help seal the screws. Not something difficult to accomplish, but more annoying that I need to redo that work.
