I'm shopping for parts now to get the engine back together. She's been rebuilt and runs quite nicely, but I took the head off - contemplating new valves and valve seats to allow her to run on unleaded gasoline. After consulting with members on the MG Oktagon club, I've decided to keep her original and not do the valve rework. The restoration level is show-quality, so she won't be going very far under her own power anyway. She'll likely visit shows in a closed trailer, so no concern of doing valve damage anyway, with under 10,000 miles.
I'm looking into what needs to be done about my headlight assemblies. The housings, rims, and fender brackets are all chrome-plated. I'm pretty sure the brackets should be body color, but I see examples of housings both painted and chrome-plated. The rings seem to always be chrome plated. So I'll consult my restoration guide and experts and make the call.
Also, I'm going to take my rims to a local restoration shop to have the cream colored paint blasted, so they can be painted the correct MG silver. I may have them deal with the failed gas tank sealant job from the previous restoration shop as well. The sealant is flaking off.
I'm excited to get going again and get the car finished. Can't wait to take her to a Cars 'n' Coffee with my son.
