Bill I do not have a crowned lifter to measure with a straight edge if is crowned or not, however can a .0003" -.0006" convex, or crowned lifter be determined with a straight edge?

The very best way to see if a lifter is crowned is to hold it against another lifter - if they sit perfectly squarely, they are flat; if they rock slightly, they are crowned. It's VERY hard to recognize a crown with a straight-edge.

Remember to also have the cam ground about .001" on one side of the lobe (like Crane) to work with the crowned lifter.

With a straight edge and a light source you should see daylight between the two of it is a modern design. You would need two new lifters to confirm Toms method. The old design lifter then acts as the straight edge. But if the lifters have been run it may be a moot point if any wear is present

Tom, Crane Cams taper for MG T type cams is.0006" . Some Crane Cams have as little as .00025" taper.
