Tappet (side) cover "tab"

On some of the original pressed steel tappet covers there is some sort of mounting tab towards the rear. Was that tab ever originally used for something? anybody know?

I believe it was used on a Y type to attach a coiled copper line too, nothing to do with a TD or TF. PJ

No temp gauge in a Y-Type! The tab was for the oil pressure gauge line.
